CHREF Scholarship Recipients — Where are They Now? Part II

By Mike Schleining, CCNP, CHREF Board Member, 2015–16 & 2016–17 CHREF Scholarship Recipient

This month, the Board of the Colorado Horticulture Research & Education Foundation will meet at Colorado State University (CSU) for their annual meeting. The agenda includes interviewing scholarship candidates, reviewing current horticulture research, and allocating funds for new research.

As we continue our spotlights on past CHREF scholarship recipients in the LooseLeaf magazine, we introduce Sheila Prentice, who is a recent scholarship recipient and a young professional in the industry.

Sheila Prentice

Sheila Prentice graduated from CSU in the fall of 2018, with a bachelor of science degree in environmental horticulture, concentrating on nursery and landscape management. She was a recipient of the CHREF scholarship in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Sheila completed her internship at Fort Collins Wholesale Nursery. After graduating, she returned there to work in the container production division as an assistant irrigator and grower.

This fall, she has gone back to CSU to complete her master’s in horticulture. She will be working with Dr. Jim Klett, and is intending to graduate in the fall of 2020. After completing this program, Sheila intends to pursue a career in horticultural extension, and hopes to work with growers and homeowners alike to advocate for the Colorado green industry. We are excited to see the future that Sheila creates in the industry and the impact that she can have on our members and businesses.
